SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN

We love speculative work that explores colonial resistance, climate hope, and cyber-feminism. But if you don't cover those themes, that's awesome too, we want to read what matters to you!

We pay contributors $20 CAD per published piece. 

We encourage submissions from BIPOC, women, nonbinary, queer, and disabled writers.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please send us an email to let us know if your piece is picked up elsewhere so we can congratulate you! Queries or withdrawals may be sent to submissions@thesprawlmag.ca. We do not accept work that has been previously published.

PAID EXPEDITED RESPONSES

For the first time, we’re introducing paid expedited submissions. For a minimum of $2 CAD, you can receive an expedited response within one week.

Paid expedited responses are completely optional. If you don’t choose to participate, this will not effect the outcome of your submission.

All funds from this program go directly to paying our authors and hosting our website.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please submit through our Google Form.

We only accept speculative (ie. fantasy, science fiction, horror) poetry, fiction, and visual art. Please don’t send us anything that is not speculative.

    • Poetry submissions should be in a legible, size 12-14pt font (eg. Times New Roman)

    • Poetry submissions should not exceed 40 lines per piece

    • Poetry submissions may contain 1-4 poems

    • Please submit your work as a DOC, DOCX, or ODT file

    • Short fiction submissions should be in a legible, size 12-14pt font (eg. Times New Roman)

    • Short fiction submissions should not exceed 1500 words per piece

    • Short fiction submissions may contain 1-2 pieces

    • Please submit your work as a DOC, DOCX, or ODT file

    • Visual art submissions may contain 1-4 pieces

    • Please include a short description for each of your pieces (50-100 words)

    • Please submit your work as a JPG, PNG, or PDF

A note on copyright:
If we accept your piece, we acquire first serial rights to your work, meaning the piece will be first published exclusively by The Sprawl Mag. After the piece has been published, all rights revert back to you.
